Do your rats know any tricks;; No

My second oldest rat is acting like she might be ill. I tried separating it from the group and giving her a clean sheet with some food and water, might there be anything else I can do for her? I tried looking the internet for some advice but I'm only told to take it to the vet yet no one is willing to take me to get her looked at. I already lost one rat to a respiratory infection and I feel I could have done more to help.

She's still eating and drinking at the moment, but she's really slow, her eye keeps sealing shut, and sometimes makes noises as if she may be in pain.

You need to take her to a vets.

You need to tell someone that she needs to go it is classed as animal cruilty ( even for a rat ) if she is denied vet treatment. Talk to someone else see if they can take her.

How many rats do you own;; 2 adult (female just have birth today, so total rats in my house is unknown)
What brought you to the rat thread;; i like rats and think they are really sweet
Do your rats know any tricks;; no but they like to give kisses :)
(Also if one rat has normal ears and the other dumbo ears, will their baby's be 50/50?

Unless the rat with normal ears had a parent with dumbo ears then they will all have normal ears. My female rat had babies with a dumbo male and all the babies had normal ears, so I researched it, and sure enough the one with normal ears would had to have had a parent with dumbo ears to be able to have babies with dumbo ears. My rat who most recently had babies has normal ears, but her dad had dumbo ears and the dad of her litter has dumbo ears and at least half of the litter has dumbo ears :)

How many rats do you own;; 6 girls - Ivy (roan) and Juniper (PEW) are 2yo, Willow & Autumn (fawn hooded), Bramble (black berkshire) and Fern (champagne hooded) are 6month old - all rescues
What brought you to the rat thread;; recently got the newest of my girlies, thought this might be good for advice/chat c:
Do your rats know any tricks;; Not yet! Working on it with Ivy my best girl, but struggling to get her to keep still long enough, she's an energetic bean cx
Also still socialising the babies, they were in a house with young loud children until a week or so ago, and are very timid. Working on not biting me at the moment, two of them are so vicious. Poor things are just terrified though.

Today I got bit, and my finger spurted blood, it was very dramatic, but is not even a big cut!

horrible bear bear wrote:hello! is an 11" wheel safe for male rats? i bought one when i first got my rats and they really like it, but they've grown a lot and now i'm worried they'll hurt themselves running on it. should i take it away from them?
if i should: any new wheel suggestions?

thanks c:

It is recommended male rats have a wheel of 16" and females 14" minimum because apparently it can cause their spine to curve if too small. Tictac are the recommended ones though expensive. You'll struggle to find any other brands that are big enough for boys.
I have a trixie wheel for my girls, it is the largest option at 33cm (~13") so it's technically under the recommended, but 4 of mine are small for girls, and the other two are older and don't use it.

16"!! woah mine really is too small for em. i'll check out tictac, i hope they ship here because if not the only way i can get somthing big enough is if i make it myself ;v;
i hope it can fit my cage lol.
thank you for the help!! it's much appreciated <3

You're welcome! <3 It was probably fine when they were small!
I know it seems so big, even when mine arrived it looked massive and takes up quite some room. You can always even have it outside for using when on free roam if you can't fit it c:

How many rats do you own;; Two
What brought you to the rat thread;; I love rats and I desire to talk about them ^^
Do your rats know any tricks;; They know how to go everywhere except their litter pans. Pretty great trick!

I just got two baby rats not that long ago and oh my goodness I love them to bits! One can't see too well yet is brave, loving and active while the other is laid back, sweet and a bit more shy. My whole room reeks of rats and they play-fight while I'm trying to sleep but other than that they are a joy to have around.

I've had them only for a couple of weeks but I can't imagine a life without them. Love my lil rex girls <3
