World War II period traitor roleplay.

ISBN, International Society Banking Network, is a reputable firm within Britain. It hosts one of the largest networks and contacts in the country, and a rather sensitive list of clientèle. Every year they deal with unfortunate accidental claims and death wills that need sorting. International acquaintances are encouraged, as are knowing the affairs of state. Every employee is expected to be vigilant with their work and up-to-date with the world news. The employees are varied in nationality, and their favourite past time is going out together at night. Over time is expected, so the ability to maintain a separate personal and business life is essential to succeeding. The firm wholly supports each employee in their personal ventures and goals, but prefer people working in a team, as there is less chance of failure. Statistics show that ISBN completes their jobs to a satisfactory standard 100 percent of the time. ISBN employ people with flair and instinct, giving them extra training to be the best of the best. ISBN divides its company into divisions, with each department specializing in a different aspect of the network. The business prides itself on the being the top dog in their services. But nobody could just breeze into ISBN demanding advice: the firm only deals with the high-end business of people with a bankful of money.

Why? Because ISBN is a spy agency. The banking side of business is only a façade for the real conspiracies that happen behind closed doors. Specialist agents are trained in assassination, code-breaking, kidnapping, tracking; capiche? The ISBN building has direct contacts to the SIS and the CIA. Agency business is strictly prohibited outside of working hours. Confidentiality is key to keeping the ISBN business alive. True, being a spy is an occupation hazard. Putting your life on the line every time you take on a mission is expected. Being part of ISBN is not for the weak-hearted, or if you are developing a case of yellow-belly. Things may go wrong, but you just take it in your stride. But you must remember the ultimate rule; trust no-one.

rules of conduct

-- Follow CS rules! Try and keep it pg-13 ; obviously the traitor can be descriptive over pm but try and be sensitive over certain topics.

-- no cheating! I think this is the utmost rule we need to uphold. This is supposed to be a mystery roleplay, so I don't want any back-door conferring by pm or whatever. Feel free to have your characters do that, but I'd like to keep the traitor as mysterious as possible. The aim of the normal spies is to find the killer, and I think it would be most fun to try and work it out. Also little side note; don't pm me asking for who it is, the traitor will get around the characters soon enough. Anyone who is killed, please don't give anything away! You'll still be involved in the roleplay and you can still read it if you wish. c:

-- traitor in the midst. I will debrief the traitor on how things will work to avoid confusion. The traitor can chose whoever they like to murder, and you must be murdered if you are chosen. I prefer if there's no 'Suddenly Sally came back to life and told everyone the real traitor was Mr X.' //example only! I will also know who has been killed, and the people who have been killed can still be in in the loop with the roleplay c:

-- Write as much as you can! I'm not demanding a novella, but writing less than 7 lines doesn't help the morale or the plot of the roleplay. If this roleplay is to work, we need everyone putting in some effort.

-- Do not be rude to other people! If the traitor has picked to kill you, it won't be personal. Please keep arguments and stuff out of ooc and the topic! Drama is only encouraged in the roleplaying aspect of it c:

The year is 1934 and World War II is still raging on. The country is depending on it's secret services to outwit the opposition and gain an advantage over them. Many of the German agents are trying to infiltrate the country and intercept the messages. The country needs you. ISBN has enlisted you and 6 others to be part of the new division 'Proditor'. This is a test division, gathering the best of the best to be completing certain tasks dictated by the ISBN President himself. Unbeknown to you, there is a traitor in the midst.

The traitor is cunning and sly: therefore you need to do your very best to flush the traitor out. Slowly, the traitor will get you all, one by one. All you can do in the mean time is pray to God you're not the next one. Finding the traitor with sufficient evidence against the person will be hard - but that's why you are here working for ISBN. Every step you take will be monitored, every waking moment will be recorded. Seek the traitor out. Destroy what destroys you. But remember - trust no-one.

      --

The aim of the 'game', per se, is to seek out the traitor. You need to be looking out for slip-ups; mistakes in people's timelines; vague accounts of the night of the murder and confront the traitor. Cold, hard evidence needs to be presented - who is going to believe you otherwise? And the traitor. This person is a master of sleath; he/she will be looking out for gaps in your accounts to attack. Being a bit of a shadow, and never pulling an obvious move, the traitor will not rest until you are all dead in the ground. The traitor is the last person you expect it to be.

All the agents should be meeting Mr X in the Harville Wing on the second floor, take the elevator and ask for 'Mr X' at the desk. Gloria will send you through.

      --

The code on mission when interacting with foreign spies is:
"Hello darling, is this seat free?"
      "Sure sweetheart."
"Do you know where the best bar is in town?"
"Just down the road and turn right."

If they reply wrongly, abandon the mission.

proditor = traitor
Head of 'Proditor' division --
" So I'm your boss. Happy? No, I didn't think so. Get something wrong, you'll pay for it with your life. Like it or lump it. Brand new division, eh? Does ISBN trust me that much? Hah! And my, they've named it nice and pretty for you guys as well. 'Proditor' means traitor in Latin for those who don't get it. What a great way to start off a new a division! So you guys are from all over the world? Fancy - but I don't do fancy. I'm your boss around here newbie, so stick with me if you want to keep your job. "

So Mr X is your boss. He's a pessimist and very cynical, but he will fight for your life. Already having nearly 25 years under his belt at ISBN, he is one of the most respected [even with his grumpy attitude]. Mr X is straight-talking and he isn't afraid to be blunt. In his lifetime he has gained many enemies, and he could count all of his friends with both of his hands. He is your boss so you will listen to him. But then again - remember? Trust no-one.

    hello darling
Name -- Elijah Mayers [pronounced E - li -ja]
    Alias -- Mr X
Age -- " Older than you sport. " Let's just say over forty-five.
Gender -- " What do you think, got a brain in there? " Male
Ethnicity -- Elijah is Russian, both his parents immigrated to Great Britain before the World War II started. He was raised in South-End London.

    don't be shy
    Personality --
Mr X, believe it or not, can be understanding. He is willing to listen to what you have to say, if you aren't saying anything stupid. But he will give you his truthful opinion on everything, so make sure you know what you're on about. Being anle to emphathize in certain situations has cost him his missions before. That's why ISBN doesn't let him participate in missions anymore, because he once let a young spy go. But that story is for another time. Mr X has hardened up, but he will never forget why he did let that spy go.

The one thing he detests above all others is losing. He can't stand to lose to anything and will be very competitive, especially with things he has a chance in. Competitions or challenges that he doesn't have much knowledge of or sport-related he will not participate; Mr X would rather not compete than lose. As stated before, he does have high opinions and can be very critical. He isn't afraid to speak his mind to anyone, especially if they instigated the argument. Sometimes, he will refuse help because he thinks it shows certain weakness. Favours are also something he tries to steer clear of. He doesn't like owing people anything and feels a certain responsibility to return the favour. He will never admit he is wrong because he hates the idea of weakness. Mr X likes to uphold a certain image of himself, and won't be afraid to taunt others.

Some people say he's scarred from his battles and missions, but some say he just has bipolar. Mr X can be very tempermental, exploding at the simplest things. He is meticulous with his work, and leaves no room for error. He detests the idea that he is going to be leading a group of young people. Believing in hard work and experience, he can work his agents hard and Mr X has a reputation for long overtime hours. Paranoid might not be the word to describe him the best, more like aware. He is always aware of what's happening: in the ISBN business; international news and affairs; and the financial market of Britain. But he had learnt this the hard way, and he has the scars to show it.

History -- Mr X started off as a young boy on the streets, joining in half-heartedly with the older teenagers when they fought in the streets. His mother was always fretful of him staying out so late, but Mr X believes this is what prepared him to become a spy. He joined the army when he was just shy of eighteen, after helping his father with the small shop business they owned. Training was tough, but he never looked back. ISBN pulled him out of the army when he was 20 years young; they said he showed 'instinct and flair'. Special spy training was given and he was assigned to the tracking squadron. Tracking came quite easily to him, as he always set rabbit traps in the local estate. Back then, times were hard and he did anything to put some meat on the table for his weak mother and worried father.

ISBN liked his short temper and his bluntness. Very quickly he advanced through the ranks, finding himself being dispatched on missions with a variety of divisions. His success was somewhat short-lived though, after his golden period at ISBN.

Mr X was told to track an agent from East Germany, called 'Elizabeth'. His given instructions were brief: track her and kill her. She had been working as a double agent, sending encrypted code messages back to East Germany. She had lost ISBN hundreds of pounds and vital information, and they needed her gone. Mr X had tracked her through to the woods by Cold Creek, and held the revolver in his hands. The same revolver Elizabeth had used to kill her partner. She looked at him with fearful eyes and her expression slack. She was barely 16, enlisted because she had the look needed for an infiltrator. How softly she spoke her final words to him, gently caressing him to loosen his grip on the revolver. ISBN agents swarmed in from all angles, ands she grabbed the gun and shot herself.

Mr X was never to be allowed on missions again, but he was too valuable as an asset to let go. Surely the news would snoop around if they had snuffed him out forever, so ISBN kept him as a divisions director. Never again would he leave the office where he slept and worked, and never again would he look at his co-workers without those words echoingin his mind.

Strengths -- good shooter ; trained in tracking ; strong leader qualities

He has adequant arms training, with using anything from a pistol to a semi-automatic. His aim is nearly always accurate and he has a hawk-like target eye. But his main speciality is tracking: he can track people, items, money - anything you need tracking, Mr X is the one to ask. After his incident, he is prohibited from tracking again.

Weaknesses -- can be overbearing ; bad stealth skills ; bad attitude

Mr X is terribly overbearing, and he isn't afraid of confronting anyone. He has also lost his touch from his younger years, due to the lack of practise he is not agile anymore. Stealth has always been his weaker point, and he is only used by the agency as a pretty face for social gatherings.

    let's talk business
Weapon choice -- " I like my fists for fighting, but a revolver does perfectly fine. "
    Speciality -- Tracking.

you will be hearing from me soon
      Mr X

      hello darling
      Name -- Autumn Ava Cossé
      Alias -- Ava Doe
      Age -- Twenty
      Gender -- Female
      Ethnicity -- Caucasian

      don't be shy
Personality -- Autumn is one of those people everyone notices. And it isn't just because she happens to be pretty. It's just a feeling that you get; you have to keep looking at her because if you look away she'll be gone. She can't explain it herself but it likes she just entrances the people around her. It could be her elegance and sophistication; it could be her wits and cool words; it could be her casual glances and sly expressions; it could be the fact she's oblivious to anyone thinking them better than her; it could be the fact that she looks more like a british socialite than whatever disguise she is wearing at the time; it could be her gentle behavior and friendly attitude; her riské comments and mischievous actions. Really, it could be any part of her. Whatever it is, she gets the stares and uses them to her advantage; like she was trained to do.
History -- Autumn was found one afternoon high up in the rafters of a loft by two MI6 agents who were investigating the murder of a government official which had taken place in that building. Autumn was the answer to their prayers; she solved the investigation. Of course, no one outside the government was told of this, Autumn was - after all - only fifteen and if anyone started a rumour that MI6 had hired the brunette to help, the agency would collapse. For the next three years if they were really stuck on something and needed another body to help, the MI6 turned to Autumn. It only happened four more times though, until she was eighteen. Then she was an adult. She dropped out of school and joined the government branch officially, finally able to explore the abilities the agency had seen to her full potential. Autumn worked in several branches of the agency, a lot of the time going out on the field to help the investigations. The for four months she was sent out to the front line of the Iraq war and when she came back she was told she was being moved to with ISBN. At the current moment she's been there for just under two months.
Strengths -- Within five steps of entering a room, Autumn knows every exit, entrance and possible escape route. The girl can 'sense' people; really she's just got the hang of being able to feel if people are behind her, in the room etc. She does extremely well under pressure, but then again, don't all spies? Autumn wears everything well, and that isn't just because she has a slim figure; it's because it isn't just her clothes that change with disguises, it's her voice, her behavior, her expressions. Autumn has an excellent ability of standing out to blend in.
Weaknesses -- Autumn can stand out to blend in but that doesn't mean it's always a strength. Sometimes she can't throw everyone's eye and it makes her useless to the mission; if you're trying to pick a lock and someone's watching you, it's not exactly keeping things top secret. Being a mild insomniac Autumn is almost always sleep deprived and this can make her groggy and un-alert, but only at the worst of times. She can read people but not always understand people. Not always the social-bee at school she spent a lot of time watching, but she had no one to understand it with or anyone she could ask about what this means or why so and so did this. She was inside but in the corner. Impatience and spies don't really mix well but Autumn is probably the exception that proves the rule. This girl doesn't do waiting. Of course, she can handle five minutes or so but she gets bored easily and she wants to know what's going on. Sometimes her impatience has made her jump the gun and set her mission back a few paces, and you can always make those steps up again. Boredom...she's a young adult, of course she's going to get bored but it's not always endearing. Autumn likes to be doing something and if she isn't, she fidgets and asks questions. Unless she is in the action you can expect her to be bored. Her last, most prominent, weakness is that Autumn is sensitive, and takes things to heart. She doesn't show it but she does.

      let's talk business
Weapon choice -- flick knife or glock (and if it's the time for it; sniper rifle)
Speciality -- ED; the nickname she uses for extraction and distraction.

you will be hearing from me soon
      Ava x

      The 'Quiet' one
Name Elizabeth Maurier
Alias Ghost
Age Twenty-nine
Gender Female
Ethnicity Icelandic

don't be shy
Personality -- Ghost sums her up pretty well. She usually just stands in the corner out of the way of everything and comes and goes as she pleases. She does not talk much, preferring to analyse situations as if she was a computer rather than a human being. Elizabeth – or Eliza if you prefer – doesn’t tend to get heavily involved with anyone and likes to keep out of other people’s business to save herself from being caught up in the middle of an argument that she would prefer not to be in as she believes it may compromise her in some way.
Elizabeth is all about the business, you could say she was a work-a-holic if that wouldn’t be creepy and scary at the same time considering the work that she does. Emotional attachments are something that she would prefer to keep away from and stay out of due to her confusion in understanding emotions. Emotions are something that Elizabeth has been very withdrawn from, intense situations will cause emotions but she doesn’t often show any at everyday things. Why bother? It does not really help the situation.
She barely ever gets insulted – if you use euphemisms she is likely to not even understand what you are saying. The same goes for sarcasm. She tends to take everything as it is said – since she cannot detect sarcasm in someone’s voice. If you tell her something like ‘there are pigs flying’ however, she’s likely to frown and ask how scientists have managed to graft wings onto pigs. Elizabeth; is unfortunately incredibly easy to lie to if you back up your claim with something that is slightly believable.

History -- Elizabeth was bought up in a small Icelandic village going by the name of Kristbjörg Kjeld. Her life in Iceland is something she does not dwell on much; she had a mother who died when she was too young to remember and a violent father who spent his time drunk or sleeping. The reason she does not dwell on it is that it holds memories that she does not understand. Her father was always telling her to ‘shut your face and stop whinging’, and many years of him telling her this led her to assume that all humans ignored their emotions – she was homeschooled so she didn’t really see anyone else. But when her sister – older than her by nine years (she had moved out to live with her husband and rarely saw Elizabeth at this point) – smashed her father’s skull in with a hammer, Elizabeth was confused by the muddle of emotions that followed the incident. She hated him, he was cruel to her and when she was old enough, many years later, her sister told her that the reason she killed him was because he had drunkenly raged around to the neighbour’s house the night previous and killed the woman who lived there. But there was also a twinge of sadness in her heart that she could never understand.
The incident involving her father’s death happened when Elizabeth was fifteen and the sisters quickly fled abroad. Elizabeth and her sister ended up in Inverness in Scotland and spent a few months living rough until Elizabeth’s sister got herself a job that was enough to cover a lodger’s rent.
At the age of eighteen Elizabeth joined the police force in Scotland, it was around this time that she got her name changed to Elizabeth Maurier and her sister changed her name to Natalie Maurier. Elizabeth spent four years in the police force, and then she found herself the other side of the prison bars as their true identity came to light many many years after their father’s death.
It was then that she was approached by ISBN. She did not really have a choice. Prison for murder – since the jury had been convinced it was the fault of both sisters – or work for a organisation that was interested in her skill set. She chose ISBN and in return they gave her sister a new identity. Apparently Natalie’s current location is Ohio, America.
Elizabeth was put through a thorough training program and given key skills that would help her in her new job. If she were to display emotion at ISBN it would be gratitude since she believes she owes them her freedom at least.

Strengths -- Quiet, it’s hard to notice her sneaking up on you. Good at hand to hand combat. Her agility is brilliant and so is her stamina.
Weaknesses -- Terrible with disguises, firearms, hacking, coding, fighting more than one person at a time. Cannot throw to save her life, and her singing is atrocious. She is also banned from the firearms, they are not a strong point for her and has managed to shoot a bullet at a wall and have it ricochet off into her shoulder before.

let's talk business
Weapon choice Poison. She pours it into drinks, puts it on knives, in lipstick...
Speciality -- Assassin

hello darling

      The cute bubbly one
Name -- Emily Ariella Fray
Alias -- Ariel - The little mermaid :3
Age -- Twenty-two
Gender -- Female
Ethnicity -- Dear Emily was born in the Welsh countryside, to the south, to a mother of Spanish decent and a father that goes back generations in Wales.

don't be shy
Personality -- Generally, Emily doesn't fight - or at least, she didn't use to. She isn't really a violent type, she prefers to stick behind other people and figure out what people are like. Even so, she is one hell of a bubbly person. She has quite a cute personality, one that's innocent and, if in danger, projects the image that she needs protecting. Emily's easy to make laugh and she's someone who can make jokes even in the most dangerous of times. Shy and intimidated is what she aims her first impression to be towards other people, though that is rarely the case.
This girl may seem like she needs protecting, but she needs anything but. She can actually hold her own better than other people her age normally would - but, that's why she's a spy. This woman doesn't trust easily, as it is in the job description - and her specific role requires her to analyse her surroundings and people around her to a very high level. Like most spies, she's very intelligent, and a decent person to have a conversation with.

History -- Emily, or Ariel as she tends to be called now, was born into quite a big family. She had two younger sisters, two younger brothers, a twin sister and an older brother, and a mother and father. Note the "had" part.
At the age of sixteen, herself and her twin sister Mary argued, very much so about something stupid. At the time, her brother Daniel was nineteen and still living with them. Her father was a very highly esteemed ISBN agent, her mother a dedicated family woman who stayed home to look after them while they grew up - she looked after the four younger Frays (Sophie, aged thirteen, Tommy, aged seven, Carrie, aged five, and George, aged four).
The argument, however, is key. It began harmless, merely about the fact that Emily had borrowed something of Mary's without asking her. It had escalated very quickly, with Emily storming out of the house - everyone else still at home, as it was Christmas Eve. A couple of hours later, when Emily had cooled down and returned home, she found the place a wreck. Fearing the worse, the teen had entered, to find the whole family lying dead in the living room. It had seemed like people had found out that her dad was a spy.

Two years later, when she attended university, she was tracked down by the ISBN. When they offered her a job, she accepted, and decided to remodel herself on her twin - she had been bubbly and sweet, unlike Emily who had been surly and moody. Eventually, the personality stuck, and since she accepted the job she's been busy as hell. In the beginning though, she was on desk duty, trying to figure out character profiles. This is only her second time in the field.

Strengths --
  • Personalities :: It's her job to figure out what people are like.
  • Hand to hand combat :: She's alright at it, she's getting better every day.
  • Analytic mind :: For her job, it's needed.
  • Intelligence :: Need I say more?

Weaknesses --
  • Oblivious :: Even though she's been trained to notice everything, it's the small things that she can't notice.
  • Violence :: She doesn't like violence too much, probably because of her family.
