being born into the shidare family is not something one should take lightly, it's a privilege, something one should be proud of and do their best to bring honor to the name. but to be perfectly honest, airi doesn't care too awfully much for their family or the family name. not being born a son was one thing, since she was less likely to spread the name, but the teen was also born mute, unable to speak or make any vocal sound at all. having a child with such a hindrance was frustrating and discouraging to her parents, thus leading to her being an old child as her parents were somewhat afraid there'd be something "wrong" with their other children, should they choose to have more. they learned sign language, not really having much choice, and learned to write at an extremely young age so communication with others would be a lot easier, leading to the teen having very nice handwriting and always carrying a small notebook and pen with them at all times, seeing as not everyone knew sign language. having such a thing handy was rather useful when the teen got bored, they would often doodle and sketch when they had time to spare in class, which was often as she would usually get her work done before anyone else, or if she just plain had nothing to do. often times, or really most of the time, she'd draw fish, sometimes other aquatic creatures but mainly just fish, they soon became her favorite animal, not a specific fish but just fish in general, she related with them, they couldn't make any noise either and were often trapped in a place they didn't want to be.
school was always frustrating, not being able to socialize with other kids easily, she simply chose not to at all, opting to study her classmates behavior instead, noting speech patterns and appropriate body language use, spending a lot of their time observing and trying to understand a concept she'd never be apart of. airi soon picked up the trait of being rather analytical, practically being able to tell what you're going to say before even you do.
home. was also very frustrating, despite being older and supposedly by default of more importance, attention was almost always focused more so on her cousin, arata. he was a son, and he was rather intelligent, talented with the piano and pleasant to be around, in all honesty airi actually liked him as a friend, they wouldn't pressure each other, she believed he should do what he wants instead of being forced to take over a company, she enjoyed listening to him play the piano when she got the chance, he was usually patient with them. but she couldn't help but hold a small amount of ill will towards him, even if a lot of attention was the last thing they wanted, it didn't exactly feel all that great to have hardly any attention on them at all. having quite a bit of pent-up vexation and other negative emotions has lead to the teen being rather grumpy and sarcastic, not afraid to jot down snide remarks and show them to people who annoy her, despite being mute she gets in her fair share of arguments.
