What is a Mutato?

In a rapidly changing world of rapidly accumulating toxic waste, Mutatoes take to the sky.
These creatures, affectionately dubbed Mutatoes, are a sad combination of an unknown creature, radioactive material, and a potato.
They live in the sky and consume UV radiation. They are the new era of Super Man.

At birth Mutatoes are about the size of a potato and can grow to around the size of a basketball.
Generally they are busy creatures who would prefer flying to being carried.
The Mutato is filled with the same kind of gases that its tail is made of.
These gases are currently unidentified, but are lighter than air- enabling them to fly.
They can stay in the air for a maximum of 20 hours straight before they need to land and "rest".
Though, when they can't be in the air, Mutatoes pace... a lot.

I chose this name because its unusual, and both bright and dark; like the Mutato. It has a twist of mystery to it, a hidden darkness behind the sunshine.

A sinful soul that brings joy to all; quiet, harmless.

A dark shroud covers the sky, promising rain in the near future. A pair of bright amber eyes stares up at the clouds, and a tail flickers excitedly. Rain. What a wonderful promise. A drop falls, and then another. The Mutato flys around in joy, diving into the gray storm clouds. He goes up and down, alternating between the sun and the darkness. His tail sticks into the clouds, and his bright yellow body sucks in the sunshine. A glimmer appears.
Curious, the Mutato zooms after it, only to find that it was a bird. A metal bird. Most curious. Its bright chrome wings and metallic turquoise feathers glimmer in the sunlight. Swipe, a paw lashes out at it. The metal bird takes no notice. Swipe again, and this time it lets out a loud shriek. The Mutato growls angrily, swiping at it again. He tackles it, sitting on top of its body so that it falls to the ground. The little Mutato wiggles around excitedly as they plummet through the layer of clouds, and the metal bird hits the ground with a satisfying crunch.
Looking down at its now broken form, the Mutato let's out a happy shriek, pacing around the body.

Most curious.

Reason for Choosing the Name:
Why Smudge Flame? Well, it's based off the design. For the tail "smudge" popped into my head, but I realised I out to have something regarding the body design in the name as well, and I thought "flame"

When I first saw the design, what came to mind was 'fire'. But looking further and seeing the orange pattern beside the grey pattern, I was reminded of the Soot balls from Spirited away.

I'm not sure if you've seen the movie or not, but it has been my favorite movie ever since I saw it, and it was what sparked me to become an artist. It has way too much meaning to me, so being reminded of such memories was rather heartwarming, making me feel rather drawn to this Mutato.

These are the little guys I was talking about here.

++Reason for choosing the name Fina is a short version of the Italian name "Serafina" which means "burning one." To me this Mutato is fire, a element that can be dangerous, but at the same time, both beautiful and warm. Fire is also warmth, not just destruction.
