Sib and I decided that Nameless will be Audrey's guardian, or ghostfather, whichever term he prefers.
So I made a doodle for a drabble I did a day or two ago:
- “Would you like to hold her?”
The ghost looked surprised. Seeing her was one thing, but holding her? Of course he wanted to! But it didn't take away from the fact that he was afraid he might hurt her. Oddly enough, Draca seemed to pick up on that.
“I know you want to, you albino broccoli.”
He'd never been so gentle as on this moment when he cradled the newborn in his arms, smiling ear to ear. It wasn't a secret that he adored children, but to be here for this moment? It was amazing.
“She's so small...” He cooed, getting a laugh out of Draca in the process. Yet the happy moment wasn't to last as a pang of sorrow shot through his damaged heart. The realisation that he was never able to have this moment with his own child started to sink in. The smile now fading away, he gave little Audrey back to her mother, and was about to excuse himself and leave if it weren't for Draca grabbing hold of his shirt.
“Nameless, I need to ask you something,” she started, shuffling to the side to make room on the bed for him to sit on. “You're a part of the family. You know that, right?”
Nameless nodded, curious to see where she was going with this. Even after having been around for a while it felt nice to hear her say that.
“It's custom for draveyne to select guardians for their children. Those who help raise them. I know we have a big family here but you've been there for us all this time, more than others have.” Draca smiled at Nameless, placing a hand on his arm. “I want you to be Audrey's guardian.”
He certainly wasn't expecting that. The ghost was hardly able to answer, babbling in different languages while smiling brightly.
“I take it that's a yes.”
I'm getting sappy this week help
