I had only been on the site for about a year and half and I didn't realize how special he was until after I adopted him, so many players wanted me to trade him but I never trade a Pound pet and also I fell in love with him.
I once saw a OMG so Rare in the pound

Now the pound opens regularly and you can adopt once every 3 hours it should be easier to get your special pet. Don't give up hope of getting a special pet
